Dallas capacity loosens following Christmas

SONAR Key Market Insights - Dallas

Highlights

Capacity is returning to the Dallas market, causing outbound tender rejection rates to plummet after their seasonal holiday uptick. Dallas outbound tender rejection rates fell 457 basis points week over week, from 15.72% on Dec. 22 to 11.15%.

Dallas outbound tender volumes also fell, due to lower volumes from shippers and receivers closing for the holidays. Volumes dropped 15.57% week over week but remain 6.03% higher than last month.

The Dallas market skews more toward outbound freight volumes. Out of 135 key market areas, Dallas ranks fourth in outbound volumes and ninth in inbound volumes.

Spot market rates remain elevated. Over a four-day rolling average, 23% of Dallas outbound lanes showed above-average increases.

Quotable

“What we found in California is that they wanted to be thoughtful. They did not want to just rush like with the passenger and light-duty [vehicles]; they wanted to make sure they had the proper regulations in place. They wanted to make sure that they had the right understanding of what they needed to regulate. And so it just took time.”

— Earl Adams Jr., vice president of public policy and regulatory affairs at PlusAI
